Hello everyone!
It has definitely quietened down after all the excitement following the William Fox Pitt demonstration, although you must keep an eye out for reports in the Times and the Gazette this week. Life of a celebrity is never completely quiet however, especially with so many adoring fans.
As you know, I had spoken to Vicki about the need for a press officer to deal with the increasing number of public appearances and fan mail I have been receiving. Thankfully she passed on this information to Natalie who immediately got on the job and found me a new personal equine assistant called Ru. Now I know what you’re thinking – you all believe that Ruby was bought for the riding school for the more experienced riders to learn advanced techniques on. Well that may be true, but his primary role is to be my PA.
Ru has had a lengthy career as a show jumper, travelling throughout the country to compete at a high level. As he got into his teenage years, he felt that a new career move was necessary and wanted to try his hoof at a more administrative role. He will obviously spend some of his time working in the riding school teaching you lot how to become better riders, but the majority of his day will be spent answering fan mail and organising meetings as demand for my celebrity appearances grows. See, we had you fooled didn’t we? You honestly all thought we’d brought on a new horse to use for British Horse Society exam training, to be an extra ride in dressage clinics and to take some of the work load off Fred and Granville. How wrong could you be!
Obviously the first few months at any new job are hard, but Ru seems to have settled in perfectly. He was fantastic at co-ordinating interviews with the Times and the Gazette following my celebrity endorsement and is in discussions with a local school for me to appear during their World Book Week, signing copies of the Hooves. On the riding side, Emma has been working hard to school him ready for his introduction into riding school life later in the summer. He’s a rather nice person too and will always take a moment to come say hello to anyone who wants a tour around the yard or just some equine kisses. It’s difficult for Ru to live in my shadow but he seems to enjoy the demands of the job.
So next time you’re coming past our field, you will probably notice Ru at my side taking notes from meetings or taking down my blog entries for publishing. Try not to disturb him too much as he has plenty of work to do, but I’m sure he would love to say hi to all my adoring fans.
Until next time,
Flitwick
