Flickwick’s Diary

Long time, no blog. Sorry for having a few weeks away from my diary, but it has been so busy here at Barton Field Farm EC. There has been an unaffiliated dressage competition, a beach ride, adult camp and plenty of other exciting things going on. Probably the biggest change is the new living arrangements…

We were all called into the office a couple of weeks ago to discuss possible changes to our living situation. It was proposed that the three cob herds could potentially all move in together, and have a huge field so they can live more naturally as one larger herd. Needless to say, I am much too important for doing something like that and still have my own field, which I let some of the horses use. The gingers were also excluded – mainly because they only have to look at another horse and they go lame. Sport horse types are so overrated.

So, the big day arrived and the gates were opened. Now, many of you clients who have been for lessons since have noticed that some of the cobs have got bits of hair missing or look a bit ruffled. Do you want to know why? Because the cobs had the BIGGEST party you could imagine on that Thursday evening. I’m not talking a cheese and wine evening with civilised conversation, no no. I’m talking about loud music that made the ground vibrate, unlimited drinks and plenty of classic party games. Rowan and Harry were showing off to the ladies whilst they played a game of Twister, LC was proving to everyone that he is the best at doing the limbo and Ozzie was head banging to every song that came on. Pablo isn’t really a party guy, but even he got involved with some races up and down the field. I even heard a rumour that Mary did some late night skinny dipping in next door’s pool.

You can guess that on Friday morning, there were plenty of tired faces and heavy heads. Lucky and I were feeling very smug about how well we were feeling in comparison, and went to shout loudly at all the horses who were still asleep. Obviously they couldn’t tell Natalie and Gemma the reason they wanted the day off, so you may have noticed your horse being a little sleepy on that Friday.

Thankfully the party lifestyle has died down a bit, and we are all getting a full night’s sleep without being disrupted by late night disturbances. Everyone seems to be thoroughly enjoying living in one large herd, and it’s nice to see the youngsters getting the opportunity to make new friends and play together. I’m still thankful I didn’t have to get involved though…

Until next time,

Flitwick
